Chico Ice Rink Hosts Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive & Ugly Sweater Contest
November 22, 2024
This Thanksgiving, the Chico Ice Rink invites the community to skate, celebrate, and give back during a Canned Food Drive to support the Chico Food Project. The drive will take place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28th, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, during the rink’s open hours.
Bring canned goods and non-perishable items to the rink and help ensure local families have food on their tables this holiday season. Donations will go directly to the Chico Food Project, which supports households across Butte County. In this area, one in five households are at or below the poverty level, making your contribution more impactful than ever.
As part of the Thanksgiving festivities, the Chico Ice Rink will also host an Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest at 7:30 PM, featuring prizes such as medals and a gift card to Savor Ice Cream for the “ugliest sweater.” It’s a fun way for families and friends to spend the holiday on the ice while supporting their community.
Tickets are only required to skate and enter the ugly sweater contest and can be purchased online at www.chicorec.gov/ice-rink-tickets. Admission is not required to drop off donations.
In addition to donating at the event, you can make an even greater impact by joining the Chico Food Project’s blue bag donation program. Sign up at www.chicofoodproject.org to donate six times per year or volunteer as a pickup driver. Every contribution helps combat hunger and support families in need across our community.
“Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, and there’s no better way to show it than by giving back,” said Holli Drobny, Administrative Director at CARD. “We’re thrilled to partner with the Chico Food Project to help make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Whether you’re skating, donating, or simply stopping by, your participation helps brighten someone’s holiday.”
Let’s come together this Thanksgiving to make a positive impact while enjoying some holiday cheer! For more Chico Ice Rink updates, visit chicorec.gov/ice-rink or follow Chico Ice Rink on Facebook and Instagram @chicorecicerink.
